Alex Mickelsen

LCSW | Therapist

Alex has a deep love and passion for working with children, teens, adults and families, while supporting them on their individual journeys toward growth and healing. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Utah State University and her Master’s degree in Social Work from Brigham Young University. She has received training in EMDR, play therapy, CBT, and Trauma-Focused CBT. Among these she also enjoys incorporating art, sand tray, mindfulness practice and attachment-focused modalities into her work, while tailoring the interventions to best fit the individual needs of her clients. She strives to take a person-centered and strengths-based approach, believing that each person is the expert of their life and has within them the ability to heal, change, and grow from life’s adversities.

Alex has worked with individuals of all ages and backgrounds, dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns. She especially enjoys working with children and survivors of trauma. Alex really believes that a secure attachment is an essential component of treatment and as such, she places a heavy emphasis on developing a relationship of trust and safety with each of her clients. She also loves to work alongside parents of her child and teen clients to foster greater growth and to strengthen their relationships.

In her spare time, Alex loves spending time with her husband and family as well as painting, drawing and anything “crafty". She also enjoys traveling, rock climbing, playing Just Dance, and taking care of her many plants.
