C-P-R Training (also called Filial Therapy) is a research-based parenting course that teaches parents how to use some of the same skills that play therapists use to help children experiencing social, emotional or behavioral problems.

 Research shows that motivated parents can be as effective as a professional in helping their child.

We are excited to announce the Parenting Towards Attachment class May 3rd! (tentative)  This eight week class will be held on Thursday nights from 6:30-8pm at The Green House Center.  The course will be instructed by Marilee Woolstenhume, CSW.

This class will cover concepts that include:

-          Attachment styles and behaviors

-          Attachment and brain development

-          Attuned commutation and nurturing tools for building attachment

-          Relationship building disciplining strategies

-          Trauma’s impact on children

-          Tools for dealing with trauma

-          Therapeutic resources available for foster children

You will be taught to:

-          Understand a child’s severe behaviors as attachment related

-          Use reflective responding to regulate a child’s emotions

-          Practice over 50 different suggested nurturing strategies and activities

-          Use the “level system”, behavioral charts, and other disciplining tools with compassion

-          Articulate the effect of trauma and mediate the effects of post-traumatic symptoms

-          Advocate for your child’s therapeutic needs and team more effectively with therapists

We are excited to announce the upcoming Social Skills Groups!  This class is geared towards teaching young children:

• Modeling and experiencing healthy social interactions
• Communicating more appropriately and learning the affect we have on others.
• Interpreting non-verbal communication of others
• Building cooperation skills
• Learning how to negotiate
• Participating in good sportsmanship and team work
• Increasing listening skills

The class will be taught by Stacey Nichols, MSWi, and will run for 8 weeks.  There will be two separate groups – one for young school-age children (3-6), and one for older school-age children (7-11).  For young school-aged children, the class will start Wednesday, June 15 from 10:00am – 11:30am, and will continue every Wednesday until August 3.  For older school-age children, the class will start on Thursday, June 16 from 10:00am-11:30am, and will continue every Thursday until August 4.

The cost for per class is $37.50.  If you have a foster child in your home, talk to your caseworker to see if you can receive special funding to fund the course.  If your child has Medicaid, we can run the cost through them.

The group will explore attachment, attachment styles, and the impact of attachment on the brain. Participants will be able to process their own attachment styles in a therapeutic setting, and learn techniques to improve their ability to be mindful through meditation and other relaxation techniques.  There is a one time fee of $225 for individuals and couples may join for $300; ask us how Medicaid or DCFS may fund your participation in this therapeutic group!
